Nicolas Roy may be a recent addition to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but he’s already making waves off the ice.
Earlier this summer, Roy arrived in Toronto from the Vegas Golden Knights as part of a sign-and-trade deal centered on former Leafs star Mitch Marner.
Just weeks after learning he’d be relocating, the 28-year-old from Amos, Quebec, tied the knot with his wife, Laurie, in a stunning ceremony at Quebec’s Manoir Montpellier. Captured by photographer Jenny-Lee Larivière, the wedding on July 19 showcased both indoor elegance and outdoor charm.
What Roy brings to the Leafs
On the ice, Roy has been a model of consistency over the past four seasons, scoring between 13 and 15 goals each year and tallying 30–41 points while averaging 15–16 minutes per game. That steady production could help the Leafs address depth scoring issues in the playoffs, though it comes with the caveat of replacing Marner.
Roy acknowledged the pressure of following in Marner’s footsteps:
“It brings a little bit of pressure, knowing what he has meant to the team, but at the same time, there is only one thing I can control, and it is getting ready for the season—working out, skating, and preparing. That’s my focus,” he said during his introductory press conference.
A 2023 Stanley Cup champion with the Golden Knights, Roy brings playoff experience to Toronto as well.
“Any time you win with a team, you know what it takes. There are always ups and downs. I really enjoy the pressure of the moment and playing in big games—that’s what we play for. I bring Stanley Cup experience, along with plenty of playoff know-how,” he added.
