Russell Wilson is currently set as the starting quarterback, having chosen New York over other teams during free agency. Behind him, the Giants have Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart on the depth chart.

Dart is viewed as the franchise’s future cornerstone, but the Giants plan to develop him carefully without rushing him into a starting role too soon.

However, carrying all three quarterbacks into the regular season may not be the Giants’ plan.

Jameis Winston has emerged as a possible trade candidate.

NFL analyst Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus has listed Winston among the top quarterbacks likely to be traded during training camp.

“The Giants will probably start either Russell Wilson or first-round pick Jaxson Dart, making Winston the likely third-string QB,” Locker noted. “While New York could keep Winston in that role, he’s expected to be a sought-after trade asset once injuries strike around the league.”

If the Giants can secure valuable draft assets in exchange for Winston, making a trade would be a smart move. He doesn’t fit into their long-term plans, and Dart is capable of backing up Wilson effectively.

Last season with the Cleveland Browns, Winston appeared in 12 games, completing 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

As injuries happen during the season, Winston could become an attractive option for teams in need of a reliable quarterback.
