K’Andre Miller has become a focal point in the Rangers’ recent trade rumors, with many around the league sensing that the team may be ready to move on from him in an effort to reshape its roster.
According to Larry Brooks, it’s almost inevitable that Miller will receive an offer sheet if the Rangers don’t trade him before July 1. Multiple sources suggest that the restricted free agent, who holds arbitration rights, is a prime target for such a move if he remains with New York past that date.
Brooks added that the Rangers would likely look to make a lateral move involving Miller, potentially swapping him for another defenseman. The organization is exploring all avenues—from free agency to trades—in hopes of improving their overall defensive performance.
One team that could pursue Miller is the Los Angeles Kings, especially with the possibility of losing defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to unrestricted free agency. The Kings, now under new general manager Ken Holland, are expected to be active in reshaping their roster, and a deal involving Miller might be among their options.
Despite his up-and-down tenure with the Rangers since being selected 22nd overall in the 2018 NHL Draft, Miller has played a substantial role on their blue line. Over five seasons, he’s appeared in 368 games, tallying 36 goals and 96 assists for 132 points, while averaging more than 21 minutes of ice time per game. His potential departure would create a sizable gap in the Rangers’ defensive corps, presenting a challenge for general manager Chris Drury.
With the NHL Draft approaching on June 27 and free agency opening on July 1, things are expected to move quickly. The Rangers are anticipated to be one of the league’s most active teams this offseason.
