It’s no secret that Newcastle United have endured setback after setback in the transfer market. From Bryan Mbeumo and Joao Pedro to Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, the Magpies have seen a string of top targets slip through their fingers.
With Alexander Isak currently unavailable, a goalless draw against a ten-man Aston Villa felt inevitable. Calling Eddie Howe’s side toothless would be unfair – but any team in world football would suffer without a striker of Isak’s calibre.
That makes securing a replacement absolutely essential, and Newcastle’s recruitment drive is heating up.
Newcastle’s Striker Hunt
At the top of their list is Yoane Wissa, with Brentford’s frontman seen as the ideal fit. The Bees, though, have resisted so far, especially after selling Mbeumo to Manchester United. A move for Bournemouth’s Dango Outtara could change the situation, potentially opening the door for Wissa’s departure.
Meanwhile, PSG’s Gonçalo Ramos has also emerged as an option, with Newcastle encouraged that a deal could be done before the deadline. Both forwards offer energy and goals, though neither is quite the like-for-like replacement Howe ideally wants.
And then there’s the wildcard: Antoine Semenyo. Spanish reports claim Newcastle are preparing a club-record £69m bid to prise the winger from Bournemouth, alongside a lucrative contract and the promise of a starring role.
What Semenyo Would Bring
If Newcastle land Semenyo, they’d be signing one of the Premier League’s most explosive wide players. Last season, he fired off more shots than any other player (125), registered seven assists, and ranked among the top creators in the division.
On the opening night this season, he showcased his quality in devastating fashion – tearing through Liverpool’s defence with a solo goal that evoked memories of Hatem Ben Arfa’s iconic strike against Bolton.
Described by analysts as a “maverick… unpredictable on the ball, relentless off it, and a duel monster”, Semenyo is chaos personified – the kind of forward defenders dread.
He may not be a direct Isak replacement, but his pace, power and flair could elevate him into that talismanic role. With 13 goals last term and his game still on the rise, Semenyo looks every bit the statement signing Newcastle need.
