Over the past few months, the Philadelphia Phillies have been actively pursuing a blockbuster trade to acquire Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr., but no deal has materialized yet. This offseason, the White Sox are in full rebuild mode, shedding their stars to restock their farm system. Notably, Chicago already dealt pitcher Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox, and Robert appears to be the next player on the move. While the Phillies missed out on Crochet, their pursuit of Robert remains alive, with the possibility of a trade being finalized in the coming weeks.
A potential trade scenario could involve the Phillies sending three top prospects to Chicago in exchange for Robert. In this hypothetical deal, the Phillies would receive Luis Robert Jr., while the White Sox would acquire outfielder Justin Crawford (Philadelphia’s No. 3 prospect), shortstop Bryan Rincon (No. 10 prospect), and outfielder Emaarion Boyd (No. 23 prospect). This trade would bolster Philadelphia’s outfield by adding Robert, a dynamic young player with three years of team control remaining, including club options for the 2026 and 2027 seasons at $20 million annually.
Although Robert had a down year in 2024, his performance in 2023 showcased his elite potential, as he hit 38 home runs and 36 doubles. For the Phillies, this trade allows them to strengthen their roster while retaining third baseman Alec Bohm, preserving the flexibility to either keep him for 2025 or include him in a future deal for a starting pitcher.
For the White Sox, the proposed trade represents an opportunity to add three promising prospects. Crawford, ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 53rd-best prospect heading into 2025, has already drawn Chicago’s attention during trade discussions for Crochet. Rincon, a switch-hitting shortstop with high potential despite a down year in 2024, would become one of the White Sox’s top shortstop prospects. Meanwhile, Boyd is a speed-focused outfielder with game-changing potential on the bases, averaging nearly one stolen base every two minor league games in his career so far. While Boyd is more of a lottery-ticket prospect, his upside fits well with Chicago’s rebuilding efforts.
If this deal materializes, it could mark a major turning point for both franchises, giving the Phillies a centerpiece outfielder for their immediate postseason aspirations while providing the White Sox with valuable assets to deepen their rebuild.
