PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have added a promising young outfielder to their farm system through a recent trade.
The team announced it has acquired minor league outfielder Titus Dumitru and cash considerations from the Atlanta Braves, in exchange for right-handed reliever Hunter Stratton.
Dumitru, a native of Gresham, Oregon—just outside of Portland—attended Sam Breslow High School, where he was named Mount Hood Conference Co-Player of the Year in 2018. Ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 2 outfielder and No. 11 overall player in Oregon, he later chose the junior college path, enrolling at Linn-Belton Community College in Albany.
As a freshman in 2022, Dumitru posted a .267/.377/.371 slash line (OPS .748), collecting 31 hits in 116 at-bats with two homers, a triple, and four doubles. He also logged a .970 fielding percentage with 124 putouts. That summer, he played for the Corvallis Knights in the West Coast League, hitting .269 with 10 stolen bases and helping the team win the South Division and league championship.
He showed significant progress in 2023, hitting .317/.399/.437 (OPS .836) with 55 hits, 33 runs, 32 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases, while boosting his fielding percentage to .988. His standout performance earned him NWAC South Region MVP, ABCA Second Team All-American, and All-NWAC First Team honors.
That summer, Dumitru competed with the Okotoks Dawgs in Canada, where he hit .364/.441/.558 (OPS .999) with six home runs and 30 RBIs in 129 at-bats. He then transferred to New Mexico State University for the 2024 season and continued to impress, slashing .337/.435/.624 (OPS 1.059) with 12 homers and 40 RBIs in 45 starts in right field, earning Second Team All-Conference recognition.
Dumitru was selected by the Braves in the 16th round (491st overall) of the 2024 MLB Draft.
He finished the 2024 season with Single-A Augusta, where he hit .217/.324/.337 (OPS .661) in 27 games. In 2025, he played for High-A Rome, posting a .231/.310/.319 (OPS .629) slash line across 64 games, tallying 58 hits, nine doubles, three homers, 36 RBIs, and 13 steals.
