The Boston Red Sox are a talented team, but they need to add more firepower to stay competitive with the league’s top contenders. This offseason, they’ve bolstered their pitching staff, headlined by the significant addition of Garrett Crochet. However, their roster upgrades might not be over yet. Cody Williams of FanSided speculated that the Red Sox could make a major move by targeting Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki, who is under an $85 million contract.
Williams suggested Boston might be one of the few teams capable of convincing the Cubs to trade Suzuki, especially in the wake of Chicago dealing Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker. While there hasn’t been much speculation about Suzuki’s availability since Bellinger’s trade, Williams noted that Cubs president Jed Hoyer appears to be trimming payroll while maintaining a competitive roster—an opportunity Boston could potentially exploit.
Suzuki, though not an elite defender, is a strong hitter with notable power that could thrive in Fenway Park. The Red Sox have the prospects and surplus starting pitching needed to make an enticing trade offer if the Cubs decide to entertain moving Suzuki. Although it remains unclear whether Chicago is open to dealing him, a compelling offer from Boston could force the Cubs to consider it.
