After losing Wesley Bailey, a key piece of their future defensive line, to the transfer portal, Rutgers has added defensive tackle Doug Blue-Eli from South Florida.
Blue-Eli, a former USF Bull, also spent a season with the TCU Horned Frogs. Originally from Paulsboro, New Jersey, he is returning home with two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-2, 315-pound lineman recorded 37 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception over three seasons with TCU and USF. Last season, he stood out in games against tougher opponents, contributing two tackles against Miami and three each against Tulane and Memphis.
Rutgers has had success finding impactful defensive tackles through the transfer portal, including players like Isiah Iton, Malcolm Ray, and Micheal Dwumfour, all of whom have either reached the NFL or are on track to do so.
Blue-Eli brings much-needed size to the Rutgers defensive line and has the opportunity to elevate his performance in a better-funded football program.
