Chrissie Hynde, Glen Hansard, Jim Jarmusch, Susanna Hoffs, and Jesse Malin are the newest additions to Michael Dorf’s The Music of benefit concert, honoring Patti Smith on March 25, 2025, at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
The event will showcase previously announced performers, including Michael Stipe, a longtime friend of Smith, along with Matt Berninger (The National), Courtney Barnett, Sharon Van Etten, Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Kronos Quartet, Ben Harper, Karen O, Kim Gordon, and Angel Olsen.
A house band, led by Tony Shanahan of the Patti Smith Band, will accompany the artists. Shanahan will be joined by renowned musicians such as Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Stanley Jordan of the Rolling Stones.
The tribute coincides with the 50th anniversary of Horses, Smith’s groundbreaking 1975 debut album. However, Dorf emphasized that the event will extend beyond this album, incorporating spoken word performances and other artistic expressions.
This year’s gathering also marks the 20th anniversary of The Music of series, which has previously paid tribute to legends like Crosby, Stills & Nash. Since its inception, the series has raised a total of $1.9 million, generating $100,000 annually for various charitable causes. Special VIP packages will be available, with proceeds benefiting selected trusts.
Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to attend an exclusive rehearsal show at New York’s City Winery on the same day.
