Free-agent third baseman key man is currently the top position player available in the market.
While the Houston Astros don’t seem particularly keen on bringing him back, the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers have reportedly emerged as the leading contenders for his services. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman pointed out that the connections Bregman has with both teams, such as his former Astros manager A.J. Hinch with the Tigers and former Astros coach Alex Cora with the Red Sox, make them strong contenders. Bregman’s nine-year tenure with the Astros has given him numerous postseason opportunities. He’s a two-time World Series champion with a .789 OPS in 99 playoff games, including 19 home runs and 54 RBIs. Both the Red Sox and Tigers could greatly benefit from adding him to their rosters. While Yardbarker’s Colin Cerniglia predicts the Tigers will secure Bregman, Spotrac estimates his market value at four years and $119 million, though Bregman’s camp is reportedly holding out for a $200 million deal.
