The Cincinnati Reds may still consider trading Jonathan India, but the rumored trade package involving the Kansas City Royals appears to be off the table. Over the weekend, Ken Rosenthal and C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reported that the two teams had discussed a deal featuring India and Royals starting pitcher Brady Singer.
However, former Reds General Manager and current MLB insider Jim Bowden refuted the report during an appearance on MLB Network Radio (subscription required). Bowden acknowledged that the framework of such a trade had been discussed, but this occurred before Cincinnati confirmed that Nick Martinez would accept his qualifying offer.

Bowden added that while the Reds are open to trading Jonathan India, they are content with their current starting rotation. This raises the possibility that Cincinnati could deal India for a corner outfielder or third baseman this offseason.
Spencer Steer stepped up as the Reds’ left fielder last season, but his real value lies in his versatility. Having played multiple positions during his two-plus seasons with the team, Steer could become a valuable utility player if the Reds acquire a dedicated outfielder, allowing him to contribute across the diamond.
As for the rest of Cincinnati’s outfield, most players are viewed as part-time options rather than everyday starters. Jake Fraley and TJ Friedl play key roles in the lineup, but acquiring a right-handed hitting outfielder through an India trade could address one of the team’s significant needs.
India’s name has frequently come up in trade discussions, a scenario he’s grown accustomed to. However, with Matt McLain set to take over at second base, the Reds may finally move the former NL Rookie of the Year to improve their outfield depth or secure a reliable third baseman.
