Leeds United’s hunt for a reliable goalscorer has led Daniel Farke to consider Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to Football Insider.
After failed late bids for Harry Wilson and ex-loanee Manor Solomon, Farke is said to be “concerned” by the lack of cutting edge in attack, despite bringing in Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.
Mateta has surfaced as a possible solution, but Palace have slapped a £50m price tag on him after rejecting Tottenham’s £40m offer. Sources suggest Palace have no plans to sell in January, with Newcastle, West Ham and even Man United also circling.
Farke has reportedly likened Leeds’ struggles up front to “going into a gunfight with a water pistol” and still wants another striker in January to boost survival hopes. While Calvert-Lewin could be key if he stays fit, Leeds are expected to keep working on alternative striker options after their transfer setbacks.
