Although the summer transfer window has closed for Leeds United, head coach Daniel Farke must work with the squad he currently has until January. That said, the Whites can still let go of players who are no longer part of Farke’s plans for the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Illan Meslier is among those potentially on the move, having slipped down the pecking order in recent months. The French goalkeeper was Farke’s first-choice for much of Leeds’ Championship promotion campaign, but he was dropped for the final games following several high-profile errors.
Meslier, now in the final year of his contract, could leave on a free transfer next summer and is free to negotiate a pre-contract with another club once the January window opens. The 25-year-old joined Leeds permanently from Lorient in 2020, and with his current market value around €16million (£13.8m) according to Transfermarkt, securing a fee for him would help the club meet Premier League PSR regulations.
Time is running short to finalize a move. The Turkish transfer window closes tonight; Galatasaray had been linked with Meslier, but they’ve completed the €30million (£25.9m) signing of Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Cakir, leaving Meslier’s future uncertain.
He has not featured in any matchday squad this season, and only a few transfer windows remain open. The Greek Super League and Mexico’s Liga MX close tonight, Liga Portugal remains open until September 15, and the Serbian Super Liga until September 17. Saudi Arabia’s window closes on September 23, giving just under two weeks to secure a permanent transfer.
