According to Football Insider, Leeds United are lining up a move for Everton forward Beto in the final weeks of the summer transfer window. The newly-promoted Premier League side are eager to add more firepower to their frontline, with the 27-year-old Guinea-Bissau international emerging as a surprise target.
Beto’s Everton journey
Beto has experienced a mixed spell at Goodison Park since his £30m switch from Udinese in August 2023. After coming through the youth systems at Oeiras and Benfica in his native Portugal — with multiple stints at lower-league side URD Tires — he rose to prominence in Serie A with Udinese before making the leap to England.
His first 18 months with Everton were inconsistent, featuring spells both in and out of the starting XI. However, under David Moyes, he became a more regular option and ended the 2023/24 campaign with 13 goal contributions in 35 matches (12 goals, 1 assist). His progress has not gone unnoticed, with several clubs monitoring his situation — Leeds among the frontrunners.
Crowded striking department at Elland Road
The timing of Leeds’ interest is surprising given Daniel Farke already has three strikers at his disposal, having recently welcomed Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha to the squad. Patrick Bamford is expected to depart and youngster Mateo Joseph has joined Mallorca on loan, but even so, another high-profile centre-forward was not thought to be on the agenda.
The deal
Reports suggest Leeds are preparing a £20-22 million offer for the Everton man. The Toffees are believed to be open to selling, with Moyes unimpressed by Beto’s attitude during pre-season. Whether the fee will be enough to tempt Everton into a sale remains to be seen — but Leeds appear determined to test their resolve.
