Missing out on Igor Paixao was a major setback, forcing Leeds to scramble for alternatives in recent weeks. A similar situation is unfolding with Rodrigo Muniz, as the Fulham striker is expected to move to Italy.
Fearing another missed opportunity, Leeds reportedly turned to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who wasn’t their first choice. Earlier today, Leeds were also linked with Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis, with reports suggesting Daniel Farke wants more firepower upfront. Leeds are still actively pursuing signings and aim to finalize a deal before the weekend.
Calvert-Lewin is set to undergo a medical ahead of joining the Whites. Sports journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos notes that Panathinaikos could demand up to £25 million for the 25-year-old Ioannidis.
Concerns have been raised about the Calvert-Lewin move. Gary Lineker commented that, while he possesses the right attributes, he isn’t a clinical finisher and is unlikely to score 20–25 goals per season even in an attacking side.
The Ioannidis signing is debatable. Bringing him in would mean four strikers competing for the same spot, raising questions about squad balance. Considering other areas of the squad need attention, Leeds may not need to pursue the Panathinaikos forward.
