Leeds United slipped to their second defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss away at Fulham.
After an underwhelming end to the transfer window, doubts are growing among supporters and those around the club. Saturday’s defeat only added to the concerns, as Daniel Farke’s side once again failed to find the net.
The lack of attacking threat has brought fresh scrutiny on the summer business carried out by the 49ers. As some critics have put it, Farke has effectively been handed a knife to a gunfight.
While four points from the opening four games may not look disastrous on paper, Leeds’ problems are clear: just one goal scored so far in the Premier League, coming from Lukas Nmecha’s disputed penalty against Everton on the opening day.
Since then, the Whites have looked toothless in front of goal, and much of that frustration links back to the transfer window. Despite Farke’s requests, the squad wasn’t strengthened with the attacking quality needed. Athletic journalist Adam Crafton summed it up on 13 September via X:
“Hard to understand what Leeds have done from an attacking perspective in the market. They’ve got a good enough defence and midfield to compete in games, but they haven’t given themselves a chance to win. When the attack is so weak, the rest of the team will lose confidence too.”
The 49ers’ ambition for Leeds is clear, but their execution has been questionable. Without reliable sources of goals, Farke’s task becomes harder each week, and unless the issues are addressed quickly, the pressure will only continue to build on his shoulders.
