AS Roma are reportedly eyeing a cut-price move for Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumaré in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Frenchman’s current deal at the King Power Stadium expires at the end of the season, and unless a new agreement is reached before then, he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs in January.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Roma plan to capitalise on the situation, having tracked Soumaré’s progress since the summer of 2024. The Italian side believe a deal could be struck for under €10 million, as Leicester look to avoid losing the 26-year-old for nothing next summer.
Soumaré joined Leicester with high expectations as one of Europe’s top young midfield prospects, and while his time in England has had mixed results, he has evolved into an important figure for the Foxes in recent seasons.
Recently, the midfielder has been used sparingly by manager Martí Cifuentes, featuring for just four minutes across the last two games after starting seven consecutive Championship fixtures. His reduced playing time comes as Leicester sit third in the table and push for a swift Premier League return.
Should Soumaré depart in January, it would leave a notable void in Leicester’s midfield. However, given the club’s ongoing financial concerns, a mid-season sale may be viewed as a necessary step to balance the books and avoid losing him for free when his contract expires.
