Offensive tackle Monroe Freeling underwent shoulder surgery, as confirmed by UGASports on Monday morning. A full recovery is anticipated, but Freeling, who played in all 14 games for Georgia last season and started the last five in place of an injured Earnest Greene III, will be limited during spring practice.
Freeling isn’t the only Bulldog to have surgery; defensive end/outside linebacker Gabe Harris also underwent surgery and shared a picture on Instagram with his arm in a sling. Harris, who played in all 14 games last season, including a start against Tennessee Tech, will be recovering as well. Additionally, freshman tight end Colton Heinrich had an unspecified surgery. Heinrich, who appeared in four games last season, will be a redshirt freshman in 2025.
Earnest Greene III recently discussed his challenging season, which was marred by injuries, including a shoulder issue that sidelined him for three games. Although Greene returned for the SEC Championship, Freeling had already secured the left tackle position by then. Reflecting on his season, Greene acknowledged that injuries are part of football but expressed a desire to reassess and focus on getting healthy for the future.
With Georgia replacing four starting offensive linemen, Greene’s versatility is an asset, giving the Bulldogs options at right tackle or guard if Freeling stays at left tackle. Greene’s performance last season, particularly in the run game, highlighted areas needing improvement. He noted that Georgia’s offensive line struggled to establish control at the line of scrimmage, especially in their loss to Notre Dame. Despite these challenges, Greene praised quarterback Gunner Stockton’s poise and performance.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s baseball team enters the season with high expectations. Baseball America ranked the Bulldogs No. 11 in their preseason poll, with Georgia being the sixth-highest-ranked SEC team. The Bulldogs, who just missed out on a trip to Omaha last season, are stacked with talent, including returnees like Tre Phelps, Kolby Branch, and Slate Alford. The team also boasts an impressive group of transfers, including outfielders Devin Obee from Duke and Nolan McCarthy from Kentucky. Additionally, Georgia has upgraded its pitching staff with former Alabama closer Alton Davis and Virginia Commonwealth standout Brian Curley. The Bulldogs open their season at UNC-Wilmington before returning home for a game against the University of Illinois-Chicago on February 20.
