Minnesota Football Recruiting: Gophers land commitment from three-star RB weapon to show his talent

Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck and his staff weren’t quite done with their 2025 recruiting class, securing a late commitment from three-star running back Xavier Ford.

Ford earned the title of “Mr. Football” from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association after an incredible season in which he rushed for 3,467 yards and 52 touchdowns.

He is set to officially sign his letter of intent on Feb. 5 and will enroll in the fall.

Scouting Report

Ford’s recruitment never gained significant traction despite his eye-popping stats, likely due to a lack of elite top-end speed. However, much like former Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim, he displays patience at the line of scrimmage before accelerating through open lanes. He’s tough to bring down on first contact and shows enough shiftiness to evade defenders in space. Additionally, he has experience lining up as a receiver, demonstrating reliable hands and route-running ability. This could prove to be an underrated addition for the Gophers.
