On Sunday morning, the Philadelphia Phillies made headlines with a blockbuster trade, acquiring Miami Marlins ace in exchange for prospects and Emaarion Boyd. The addition of Luzardo solidifies a Phillies rotation now boasting five potential aces. Importantly, the Phillies managed to retain third baseman Alec Bohm, a key move in the bigger picture. Earlier in the offseason, rumors circulated that the Phillies might entertain offers for Bohm, an All-Star infielder with significant trade value due to his talent and multiple years of affordable team control.
It was widely believed that the Phillies would only part with Bohm for a player of greater caliber, such as Luis Castillo or Garrett Crochet. However, with Crochet no longer available and Luzardo now in Philadelphia, it seems unlikely that a deal worthy of trading Bohm will materialize. Bohm’s value far exceeds what the Phillies could get for him in a trade for a reliever or even an outfielder, especially with free agents like Teoscar Hernández and Jurickson Profar still on the market. While the Phillies would entertain an irresistible trade offer, it’s hard to imagine them actively shopping their 28-year-old star infielder.
