The Philadelphia Phillies have frequently been at the center of offseason trade, particularly regarding All-Star third baseman. Despite having one of the best seasons of his career, Bohm struggled late in the year and was even benched during the playoffs, allegedly due to maturity concerns that may have strained his relationship with the team.
While these rumors have never been directly confirmed by the Phillies, manager Rob Thomson has recently pushed back, stating the team has no intention of trading the 2024 All-Star. This could be a negotiating tactic to boost Bohm’s trade value, but a deal involving him seems less certain now than it did a month ago.
However, MLB insider remains convinced that Bohm will be traded. Speaking on “Foul Territory,” Rosenthal said he views Bohm’s departure as more of a matter of “when” than “if.” He added, “The Phillies clearly want to trade him, but they’ve been unsuccessful so far. I don’t expect him to be on the team by the start of the season.” Rosenthal also identified the Seattle Mariners as a potential landing spot and emphasized that Phillies president Dave Dombrowski isn’t likely to return with the same roster after the team’s disappointing finish to the season.
If Bohm is ultimately traded, the Phillies might not receive the return they initially hoped for. His inconsistency at the plate, coupled with rumored off-field issues, could dampen his market value. Nonetheless, Dombrowski has been vocal about his intention to make significant changes to the lineup, and moving on from Bohm would fit that plan.
A deal with the Mariners, a team in desperate need of offensive upgrades, remains a plausible outcome. However, with no agreement reached during the Winter Meetings, this situation could drag on for weeks or months as teams finalize their rosters.
Despite the decreased likelihood of a trade in recent weeks, Phillies fans shouldn’t expect Bohm to be part of the team in 2025.
