Newcastle United are back in Premier League action next weekend as they welcome Wolves to St James’ Park. Supporters heading to the ground will be eager to see Eddie Howe’s men claim their first league victory of the season – and they could also witness debuts for two of the club’s newest arrivals.
Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa are both in line to feature for the Magpies for the first time. Woltemade watched from the stands at Elland Road prior to the international break, but his move wasn’t completed in time for him to play. Wissa, on the other hand, was still under contract at Brentford when Newcastle battled to another goalless draw against Leeds. If both come through the international fixtures unscathed, they will be available for selection on Saturday.
Howe will, however, be forced to do without at least one of his regular starters due to suspension – and faces a nervous wait over the fitness of two more players who picked up knocks before the break. Here’s the full rundown on Newcastle’s injury situation and potential return dates:
Anthony Gordon – Suspension
Gordon is serving a three-match ban following his red card against Liverpool. He already sat out the stalemate with Leeds and will also miss the Wolves clash. He’ll return in time for the Champions League meeting with Barcelona but will be absent again for the trip to Bournemouth on 21 September. His first Premier League outing back will be against Arsenal later in the month. Gordon will also be available for the Carabao Cup tie against Bradford City.

Joelinton – Groin injury
The Brazilian limped off against Liverpool with a groin problem and missed the Leeds fixture. The injury is not believed to be serious, and there’s optimism he could be fit to face Wolves.

Jacob Ramsey – Ankle injury
Ramsey was forced off at half-time against Leeds with an ankle issue during his first start for the club. Although he didn’t risk continuing, the early signs are positive and he’s in contention to feature against Wolves – potentially marking his home debut.
