On Tuesday evening (2 September 2025), Newcastle United confirmed that midfielder Travis Hernes has joined FC Groningen on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.
Currently sitting eighth in the Eredivisie, Groningen could provide the 19-year-old with valuable first-team experience this season.
Hernes, who signed for Newcastle from Shrewsbury Town in September 2023, made headlines at just 16 when he scored on his professional debut in an EFL Trophy tie against Wolves. Since arriving on Tyneside, he has featured on the bench in the Magpies’ FA Cup win at Fulham in January 2024 and was also part of the squad for their 3-1 Premier League victory over Aston Villa later that month.
A Norwegian youth international, Hernes has been a consistent performer for Newcastle’s under-21 side this season. The club has wished him every success during his loan spell in the Netherlands.
