Nottingham Forest have already bolstered their squad with eight signings this summer, the most recent being Douglas Luiz, who arrived on loan from Juventus.
Manager Nuno Espírito Santo is still pushing for further reinforcements before the deadline, with two full-backs and a goalkeeper said to be at the top of his wishlist. Forest have been linked with Atlético Madrid’s Nahuel Molina, and the hope is that at least one defensive addition can be secured before Sunday’s clash with West Ham.
One ambitious target was Espanyol’s 21-year-old right-back Omar. The Spaniard, who has made 89 senior appearances for his boyhood club—including the opening two matches of this season—has attracted plenty of interest. Forest reportedly tabled a £26 million bid, but according to journalist Guillem Balagué, Espanyol swiftly rejected the offer and have no intention of letting him go. With a contract running until 2027, Omar is seen as untouchable this summer.
For Forest, the need for defensive cover is urgent. Neco Williams and Ola Aina are the only recognised full-backs currently holding down spots, and any injury would leave the squad short of options. While Omar would have been a dream signing, the price tag made him an expensive luxury, especially with Aina firmly established on the right.
With time ticking, Forest must now step up their pursuit of full-backs if Nuno is to have the depth he needs going into the weekend.
