The Los Angeles Rams will need reinforcements at wide receiver this offseason, as Puka Nacua is currently their only reliable option at the position.
So, what happened to a Rams receiving corps that looked strong for much of 2024?
For starters, Los Angeles is in the process of trading Cooper Kupp, creating a significant void behind Nacua. Additionally, both Demarcus Robinson and Tutu Atwell are set to hit free agency next month.
Robinson is particularly intriguing, as he played a key role for the Rams down the stretch and had the most productive season of his career.
However, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell doesn’t expect Robinson to command a hefty contract in free agency, projecting him to sign an affordable short-term deal.
“If the Rams part ways with Kupp, they could justify re-signing Robinson on a one-year contract in the $4 million range he made last season. That said, they may be able to find an upgrade over the 30-year-old if they explore other options,” Barnwell wrote.
Would Robinson really settle for just $4 million on the open market? He played all 17 games last season, recording 31 catches for 505 yards and seven touchdowns—an impressive 16.3 yards per reception.
While those numbers aren’t eye-popping, Robinson proved to be a dependable weapon and made several clutch plays for Los Angeles throughout the 2024 campaign.
At 30, Robinson is likely a known commodity at this stage of his career, but given the NFL’s emphasis on the passing game, it’s reasonable to think he could receive a better offer elsewhere.
Robinson isn’t a true No. 2 receiver, so the Rams shouldn’t expect him to replace Kupp. However, if they can bring him back on a budget-friendly deal, it would be a move worth considering for a complementary role.
