Red Wings’ Patrick Kane faced shocking sexual assault charges immediately NHL end his career with red wings

Patrick Kane, the star forward for the Detroit Red Wings, has enjoyed a stable phase in his career over the past few years. However, 2015 was a challenging year for him, as he faced allegations of sexual assault from a woman he had met that same night. The months following the accusation were difficult for Kane.

Patrick Kane Faced Sexual Assault Allegations, but Charges Were Dropped

According to the Buffalo News, on August 1, 2015, an unnamed woman accused Patrick Kane of sexual assault. She claimed they met at a nightclub in Buffalo, New York, before heading to Kane’s mansion in Hamburg, Buffalo. The woman alleged that Kane assaulted her at his home, leading her to seek a medical examination at a hospital the next morning.

At the time, Kane was among the NHL’s most high-profile players, having won three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks. He remained with the team until 2023.

The NHL took the allegations seriously and launched its own investigation. By March 2016, all charges against Kane were dropped due to a lack of evidence. In November 2015, prosecutors determined there was no credible proof to support the allegations. Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita stated, “The totality of the credible evidence—the proof—does not sufficiently substantiate the complainant’s allegation that she was raped by Patrick Kane, and this so-called ‘case’ is rife with reasonable doubt.”

Kane continued playing for the Blackhawks until 2023, when he was traded to the New York Rangers. After a brief stint with the Rangers, he entered free agency and later signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings.
