The Boston Red Sox are actively searching for a right-handed bat, and many MLB insiders see a partnership with Alex Bregman as likely.
Bregman remains the top free agent available. While the Houston Astros and New York Yankees were initially considered front-runners for the All-Star, their offseason moves appear to have taken them out of the running.
Both the Red Sox and Detroit Tigers have been heavily linked to Bregman, partly due to managerial connections with the two-time World Series MVP. Reports are mixed about which team holds the advantage, but The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal recently suggested it would be “logical” for Boston to secure the veteran.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand also identified the Red Sox as the “most logical team” to sign Bregman in his analysis of the top free agents. Boston has already bolstered its rotation by adding Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler. With Rafael Devers and Triston Casas occupying the corner infield spots, Bregman could slot in at second base, a position manager Alex Cora confirmed he’s fully capable of playing.
The Red Sox may have a slight edge, as Buehler revealed on Friday that he had personally pitched the idea of joining Boston to his longtime friend. However, the decision ultimately rests with Bregman, and his choice remains uncertain.
