Borussia Dortmund have officially addressed recent reports regarding Belgian forward Julien Duranville. On Thursday, the Bundesliga club confirmed that the 19-year-old will undergo surgery and is set to be sidelined for an indefinite period. This marks the fifth serious injury of his young career.
Due to his recurring fitness issues, Duranville has managed only 27 senior appearances over the past two-and-a-half seasons at BVB. With his absence, Dortmund’s sporting leadership faces renewed urgency to sign a winger during the summer window. Duranville had been viewed as the leading candidate to fill the void left by Jamie Gittens’ departure.
“It’s extremely disappointing that Julien has sustained a shoulder injury in such an unfortunate way,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl. “We made significant progress last season in building up his physical resilience, which makes this setback particularly tough. But we remain hopeful because Julien has exceptional potential. We’ll support him fully to ensure a smooth recovery and return.”
Duranville’s latest injury could accelerate Dortmund’s pursuit of fellow Belgian winger Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven. However, they’ll face strong competition from domestic rivals Bayer Leverkusen, who are also keen on the 22-year-old.
