The San Diego Padres need to address their left-field vacancy following Jurickson Profar’s breakout season. Profar delivered an impressive 2024 campaign, slashing .280/.459/.839 with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs, making his production difficult to replace. The simplest solution? Bring him back. CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson predicts the Padres will re-sign Profar this offseason, and Jon Heyman of the New York Post projects a two-year deal worth $26 million.
“Profar is a tricky player to evaluate: all the metrics suggest his 2024 gains were legitimate, but skepticism about age-31 breakouts is justified,” Anderson wrote. “His best option always seemed to be a return to the Padres. However, teams like the Red Sox or Mets—who missed out on Teoscar Hernández—might take a chance on him hoping for a repeat of his stellar season.”
Profar’s performance last season was a career-best, and while it’s unlikely he’ll command more than $20 million annually, his contributions alongside Fernando Tatis Jr. make re-signing him a smart move for the Padres for the next two to three years.
