It feels like Sal Stewart is producing a new highlight reel every night. Wednesday against the Gwinnett Stripers was no different, as the 21-year-old fell just a triple shy of the cycle, going 4-for-6 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBIs.
Through 23 games with Triple-A Louisville, Stewart is scorching the ball, slashing .337/.400/.674 with six home runs and 20 RBIs.
The Reds just claimed a series win over the Phillies, taking two of three, with the bats finally showing life in the last two games. Still, since the All-Star break, their offense has been inconsistent at best.
Stewart’s performance is putting pressure on the front office. The real question isn’t if he’ll be called up—it’s where he’ll play. Whether that means stealing innings from Matt McLain at second, slotting in as the DH, or cutting into Ke’Bryan Hayes’ time at third, a bat this hot deserves a shot.
At this point, it’s not about if we’ll see Stewart in a Reds uniform—it’s about how soon.
