Sunderland Target Leicester’s Abdul Fatawu
Keeping hold of their forwards has proved a tough challenge for Leicester this summer. Bilal El Khannouss has been linked with clubs including Newcastle, Tottenham, and Crystal Palace, and now it appears Abdul Fatawu could be heading out of King Power Stadium.
TalkSPORT reports that Sunderland have lodged an opening bid for the 21-year-old, which would mark their 13th signing of the summer, following acquisitions like Granit Xhaka and Simon Adingra. Regis Le Bris’ side are reportedly offering £28 million for Fatawu, who still has four years left on his Leicester contract.
Fatawu first joined the Foxes on loan from Sporting Lisbon in 2023, making the deal permanent a year later. In 58 appearances for Leicester, he has scored seven goals and provided 15 assists.
Sunderland kicked off their Premier League return with a 3-0 home win over West Ham and are keen to bolster their attack as they target top-flight survival. A move for Fatawu would push their summer spending past £160 million and mark Leicester’s biggest sale of the window.
Losing Fatawu would be a huge blow for the Foxes, as he has been a standout performer capable of troubling any Championship defence. However, Sunderland’s sizeable bid could prove hard to refuse, offering Leicester some relief amid financial challenges following relegation.
For the young forward, joining a side that impressed in their 3-0 win over West Ham represents an exciting opportunity — one that may be impossible for Cifuentes to block.
