Second-round draft pick, No. 4 prospect, and former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder has transitioned to coaching softball in his hometown.
Once a highly touted prospect in the minors, Quinn was best known for his exceptional speed. Despite suffering an Achilles injury in 2013, he earned an elite 80-grade for speed on the baseball scouting scale. Throughout his career with the Phillies, Quinn experienced a mix of highs and lows, frequently battling injuries that impacted his playing time.
Despite these setbacks, Quinn often provided a much-needed spark for the Phillies. During the 2018 season, he occasionally served as the team’s leadoff hitter but more often energized the lineup from the ninth spot. In July and August of that year, he posted an impressive .362 batting average and made the most of his speed, frequently stealing bases.

In a recent interview with WMBB News 13’s Kaleigh Tingelstad, former Phillies outfielder Roman Quinn reflected on his Major League career and shared his thoughts on coaching softball in his hometown of Port St. Joe. Quinn admitted that, despite battling injuries throughout his time in the MLB, he wishes he had taken more time to enjoy the experience. “It was a grind mentally and physically,” Quinn told Tingelstad. “I had a couple of injuries that I dealt with throughout my career. I wish I would have enjoyed it just a little bit more. But I’m thankful for the opportunities that I did have.”
Quinn retired in September 2023 and has since focused on spending time with his family. His passion for baseball inspired his daughter, who joined the Port St. Joe Angels softball team, where Quinn now serves as head coach. Under his leadership, the Angels won their first state title and are set to compete in the Dixie World Series.
The young players credit Quinn’s MLB experience for their success, and his motivational coaching style has made a lasting impact. “I’m excited for these girls,” Quinn said. “I’m glad that they have the opportunity to do something that not too many kids get to experience.” Quinn’s goal is to create a positive and memorable experience for his players while helping them reach their full potential.
