Hartman, 23, broke into Feyenoord’s first team in 2022 and made an immediate impact, playing a vital role in his debut senior season to help his childhood club secure their first Eredivisie title in six years.
The left-back continued his strong form the following season, adding another trophy to his achievements as Arne Slot’s squad claimed the Dutch Cup.
His consistent performances quickly attracted interest from top European clubs, with Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea all reportedly keen on signing him.
Chelsea appeared to be leading the race for his signature, but a serious knee injury in March derailed a potential move to Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
The unfortunate injury sidelined Hartman for the rest of Feyenoord’s season and forced him to miss the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 campaign.
Reflecting on the situation with Voetbal Primeur, Hartman maintained a positive outlook:
“Can you really call it unlucky when you’ve won the league with Feyenoord, played in the Champions League, reached the Europa League quarterfinals, and made the national team?”
He acknowledged Chelsea’s interest but accepted that his injury prevented the transfer:
“Chelsea wanted me, but of course, that didn’t happen because of my knee. It’s a shame—emotionally, it would have been a great club for me—but I’m not losing sleep over it.
“Things happen as they do, and playing for Feyenoord is never a punishment.”
