Oklahoma has secured a commitment from State wide receiver Carter via the NCAA transfer portal, as announced on social media.
Carter visited Norman on Friday before choosing the Sooners over Baylor, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Utah. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 192 pounds, he fits the mold OU is targeting at the receiver position. In his most recent season, Carter tallied 37 catches for 537 yards and three touchdowns. A native of Louisiana and a product of Kentwood High School, he earned first-team All-District 9-1A honors as part of the 2023 recruiting class.
Oklahoma made Carter a late-cycle priority to bolster depth at wide receiver. He’s the fifth wideout to transfer to OU since the 2024 season concluded, joining Javonnie Gibson (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Isaiah Staegna (Arkansas), Keontez Lewis (Southern Illinois), and Josiah Martin (Cal) as portal additions this offseason.
The Sooners have significantly revamped their receiver corps after injuries sidelined their top five options last season and five more players entered the portal. With the addition of Washington State transfer quarterback John Mateer, OU is aiming to rebuild its offensive arsenal with plenty of fresh talent at wideout.
“It forced some guys to grow up and take on bigger roles faster,” said offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle. “It’s great for their development. They saw it as a chance to improve and prove themselves. Javonnie’s attitude really energized the group.”
Carter joins a group of recent signees that includes Cal running back Jaydn Ott, Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula, Utah State defensive tackle Ricky Lolohea, and UTSA kicker Tate Sandell, all of whom committed to OU on Friday morning.
