The Washington Capitals bolstered their organizational depth on Monday by signing forward Sheldon Rempal to a one-year, two-way contract, which pays $775,000 at the NHL level and $450,000 in the AHL. The deal likely strengthens the Hershey Bears, Washington’s AHL affiliate.

Rempal, a 5-foot-11, 173-pound winger, spent the 2024–25 season in the KHL with Salavat Yulaev Ufa, where he posted 61 points (31 goals, 30 assists) in 68 games — ranking fourth in league scoring. Despite his team falling short of the Gagarin Cup Finals, he led all KHL skaters in playoff scoring with 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) over 19 games. Ufa was eliminated in the semifinals by the eventual champions, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, in five games. Rempal helped clinch Ufa’s spot in that round with a decisive goal in Game 7 against Spartak Moscow.
Undrafted after two standout years at Clarkson University, Rempal signed with the Los Angeles Kings in 2018. Since then, he has seen limited NHL action, appearing in 21 games with Vegas, Vancouver, Carolina, and Los Angeles, totaling 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist). Both NHL goals came during the 2023–24 season with Vegas.
While he hasn’t made a major impact in the NHL, Rempal has been highly productive in the AHL. Over the last three full AHL seasons, he’s scored 25 or more goals each year, including a career-high 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) in 55 games with Abbotsford in 2021–22. Last season, with Henderson, the Golden Knights’ AHL affiliate, Rempal tallied 27 goals and 11 power-play goals, leading the team in scoring.
To date, Rempal has amassed 252 points (108 goals, 144 assists) in 328 career AHL games across stints with Henderson, Abbotsford, Chicago, and Ontario. He was named an AHL All-Star in 2019.
Rempal also has a prior connection to Washington, having attended Capitals Development Camp in 2017.
