The New York Knicks considered signing free agent center Thomas Bryant but ultimately decided to go in a different direction, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.
Instead of adding another big man, the team prioritized backcourt depth, bringing in Malcolm Brogdon, Landry Shamet, and Garrison Mathews on non-guaranteed contracts. The trio will compete in training camp for a likely single regular-season roster spot.
Despite not being signed, Bryant reportedly made a positive impression on the Knicks during open gym sessions.
The 28-year-old split last season between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers, averaging 6.5 points and 3.8 rebounds across 66 games. He also appeared in 20 postseason contests during Indiana’s run to the NBA Finals.
An eight-year NBA veteran, Bryant has previously played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, and Pacers, posting career averages of 8.9 points and 5.1 rebounds over 333 games.
