The Boston Red Sox have signed reliever to a one-year, $10.75 million deal, the team announced Tuesday.
Chapman, known for his blazing fastball, may take over as the team’s closer since current closer Kenley Jansen is a free agent.
The 36-year-old veteran boasts a 2.63 career ERA with 1,246 strikeouts over 15 seasons with seven teams. His 335 career saves rank 16th in MLB history. In 2024, Chapman recorded a 5-5 record with 14 saves and a 3.79 ERA across 68 games for Pittsburgh, striking out 98 batters in 61 2/3 innings.
A seven-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, Chapman won titles with the Chicago Cubs in 2016 and the Texas Rangers in 2023.
The Red Sox bullpen struggled this past season, blowing 31 of 71 save chances and posting a 4.39 ERA. Boston finished third in the AL East, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
