Transfer news: Sunderland agree £20.5m deal to sign another Brighton star, done deal

Sunderland have reportedly reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign winger Simon Adingra.

The Black Cats have been busy in the summer transfer market and confirmed another addition on Wednesday afternoon, announcing the signing of Moroccan winger Chemsdine Talbi from Belgian side Club Brugge.

However, Sunderland appear to be closing in on yet another wide player, with Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reporting that a deal for Brighton’s Simon Adingra is nearly finalized.

What’s the latest on Sunderland’s pursuit of Adingra?
The Ivorian winger had previously been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light during the January transfer window, in a potential swap involving young forward Tommy Watson. That deal collapsed on Deadline Day, and Watson remained with Sunderland, going on to score the decisive goal in the Championship play-off final that earned the club promotion to the Premier League.

Now back in the top flight, Sunderland have seemingly rekindled their interest in Adingra. According to Downie on X (formerly Twitter), Sunderland have agreed to pay Brighton £18 million plus an additional £2.5 million in performance-related bonuses. The 23-year-old has reportedly flown to the North East by private jet and is undergoing a medical, with personal terms already settled.

Adingra joined Brighton in 2023 from Belgian club Union SG and has since made 73 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists.
