The 33-year-old striker had been a free agent since leaving Bradford City over the summer, finishing last season on loan at Shrewsbury.
“I’m buzzing to be here,” Oliver told the Hartlepool website. “Once I knew the club was interested, it was a no-brainer.”
Oliver, who recently took part in the PFA pre-season training camp, now reunites with former Bantams boss Simon Grayson in the north-east.
Grayson said: “We’re thrilled to have Vadaine on board. He brings experience at various levels, and a different style of striker that we’ve been missing. It adds a new dimension to the team, which is exactly what we need.”
Joining Oliver at Hartlepool for the season is his former Valley Parade teammate Jay Benn. The Pools currently sit seventh in the National League with 13 points, seven behind leaders Forest Green.
