As the NFL trade deadline approaches, some teams are shoring up their playoff hopes, while others are ready to part ways with costly veterans. The Minnesota Vikings fall into the former category. At 4-4 and fresh off a key rivalry win against the Detroit Lions, the Vikings believe they still have a shot at the postseason.
Much of the optimism centers on quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The 2024 first-round pick returned from injury to lead Minnesota past Detroit. While his stats weren’t eye-popping, his leadership and poise helped secure the victory.
Still, the Vikings went into that game with just two active quarterbacks: McCarthy and relatively unknown backup Max Brosmer.
CBS Sports writer Johnathon Jones highlighted Minnesota’s quarterback situation in a recent piece, noting the team is exploring options to add another QB.
“That building is used to having conversations around the acquisition of quarterbacks,” Jones wrote. “I wouldn’t be surprised if those talks extend to Tuesday, possibly resulting in a late pick for a low-cost veteran who wouldn’t challenge McCarthy’s starting role (Carson Wentz is out for the season). Remember, Minnesota signed Daniel Jones last year after he was released by the Giants.”
With the trade deadline set for today (Nov. 4) at 4 PM ET, the Vikings will need to act quickly if they want to add another quarterback to the roster.
