Earlier this week, three defensive linemen from Virginia Tech’s football team revealed their plans to enter the transfer portal, which officially opens on Monday and remains active through December 28. As the portal opens, more Hokies are likely to follow suit. Meanwhile, two offensive players announced on Saturday their intentions to enter the portal as well.
Two Virginia Tech offensive players to enter the transfer portal
Redshirt offensive lineman Lance Williams announced via his X account that he intends to enter the transfer portal and seek a new opportunity for the 2025 season. Williams, a three-star recruit from the Class of 2023, did not play during his first year and logged only three snaps this season during Virginia Tech’s win over Boston College in November.
Also on Saturday, walk-on quarterback Jackson Sigler declared on his X account that he will be entering the portal. Sigler, a native of Stafford, Virginia, and a graduate of Mountain View High School, was primarily a depth option for the Hokies. With the incoming addition of quarterbacks AJ Brand and Kelden Ryan next season, Virginia Tech appears well-stocked at the position. However, the futures of current quarterbacks Kyron Drones, Pop Watson, and true freshman Davi Belfort remain uncertain.
These announcements bring the number of Hokies entering the portal to five. Earlier this week, defensive linemen Khurtiss Perry, Malachi Madison, and Ishmael Findlayter declared their intentions to transfer. Perry, who transferred to Virginia Tech from Alabama but played sparingly in 2024, was the subject of limited commentary from defensive line coach J.C. Price when asked about him in November, making his portal entry unsurprising.
Head coach Brent Pry and the Hokies now face a period of roster adjustments as the transfer portal officially opens.
