For Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry, the transfer portal season will be hectic and full of activity. After a calm 2023 portal window, a large number of scholarship players visit the transfer portal. The Hokies will have many needs in 2025, especially if a number of players use up all of their eligibility.
On Tuesday, some gamers in Blacksburg formally entered the portal, continuing the trend of players leaving the portal after a highly active Monday. It should come as no surprise that players logged in on the second day the portal was formally launched.
Xayvion Turner-Bradshaw
With Xayvion Turner-Bradshaw way down the depth chart in a packed wide receiver room, it’s easy to understand why he entered the transfer portal. He switched from wide receiver to defensive back, although his greatest contribution to the Hokies came on offense.
He scored on an incredible 47-yard run against North Carolina State last season, showcasing his quickness to the end zone as he swiftly got out in the entire field. In addition to Turner-Bradshaw, Stephen Gosnell, Jaylin Lane, Da’Quan Felton, and Ali Jennings are departing after exhausting their eligibility.
Jonathan Pennix
Jonathan Pennix, a young cornerback who recorded two tackles this season—both on special teams—entered the gateway on Tuesday. He will search for a new home in 2025 after, like other players, failing to make an impression on the skilled and loaded defensive back group.
Josh Gholston
Josh Gholston, a defensive back with one year left of eligibility, is also logging into the transfer portal. During his two seasons at Virginia Tech, he appeared in just one game.
