One of Wisconsin’s notable winter transfer additions has already moved on, finding a new destination out west.
Wide receiver 5-star, who transferred in from FCS Idaho, committed to California, according to a report by On3 on Wednesday. 247Sports also confirmed his transfer.
Hamper, listed at 6’1″ and 210 pounds on Wisconsin’s 2025 spring roster, joined the Badgers after a strong season at Idaho, where he logged 49 catches for 961 yards and six touchdowns. However, he left the team before completing spring practices, with 247Sports first reporting his intent to re-enter the portal on April 15.
Now headed to Cal, Hamper will be closer to his hometown of West Linn, Oregon. He’ll compete in the ACC but will still see a Big Ten opponent early in the season when the Golden Bears host Minnesota in September.
His departure, along with that of redshirt junior Quincy Burroughs, impacts Wisconsin’s receiver depth.
This spring, upperclassmen Jayden Ballard (RS senior), Vinny Anthony II (senior), Tyrell Henry (senior), and Chris Brooks Jr. (RS junior) all made plays with the first-team offense. Redshirt sophomore Trech Kekahuna missed most of spring with an injury but is expected to be a key target for new quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. upon return.
Freshman Eugene Hilton Jr. also impressed during spring practice and could play a role this season, depending on his preseason performance.
Other scholarship receivers still on the roster include redshirt junior Joseph Griffin Jr. (a transfer from Boston College) and redshirt freshman Kyan Berry-Johnson.
The Badgers may look to add reinforcements from the spring transfer window, which was open from April 16 to 25.
