The Boston Red Sox are in search of a right-handed hitter as the next season approaches, and they need to act quickly. While the team has explored trade and signing options, one intriguing trade idea hasn’t seemingly been pursued yet. Hannah Filippo of Fansided proposed a bold move: the Red Sox trading for Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The proposed trade would involve:
Red Sox receive: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Blue Jays receive: Triston Casas, plus additional prospects (to be determined).
Guerrero had an outstanding season last year, posting a .323/.396/.544/.940 slash line with 44 doubles and 30 home runs. He earned his fourth All-Star selection and his second Silver Slugger award.
Although parting with Casas would be a tough decision, Guerrero is a proven first baseman with a Gold Glove from 2022, and his defensive skills would be an asset.
Would the Red Sox make this trade? Likely not, but perhaps for unexpected reasons. The team may prefer to keep Casas while envisioning Guerrero playing third base and shifting Rafael Devers to the designated hitter role. Instead, the Sox might wait for Guerrero to hit free agency next offseason, especially since he has expressed interest in playing for Boston. If that’s the case, a deal could be inevitable.
