The Boston Red Sox made significant moves to strengthen their starting rotation by trading for Garrett Crochet and signing Walker Buehler. With these additions, it became clear that they were likely moving on from Nick Pivetta, though he still has value on the market.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently pointed out that the San Francisco Giants could be one of the top destinations for Pivetta. Spotrac estimates the right-hander could sign for $60 million this offseason, a figure that fits well within the Giants’ budget.
Miller noted that Pivetta, who has been consistent over the past four years with the Red Sox, pitching at least 140 innings each season and posting an ERA between 4.04 and 4.56, has yet to secure a multi-year contract. The longer he remains a free agent, the more likely it is that he settles for a “one year plus a player option” deal, a type of contract San Francisco is known to favor.
The Giants had previously shown interest in Corbin Burnes before he joined the Arizona Diamondbacks, signaling their desire to add pitching. While Jack Flaherty remains their top target, if they miss out on him, Pivetta could become their next option.
