The Jets bolstered both their offensive and defensive lines on Wednesday.
The team reached an agreement with free-agent defensive end Rashad Weaver, according to a source. They also signed offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor and former Packers center Josh Myers, who secured a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
Additionally, the Jets re-signed defensive back Isaiah Oliver, who played in every game last season. A versatile player capable of lining up at both safety and cornerback, Oliver was utilized in various roles to fill gaps on defense.
Weaver, 27, was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 draft by the Titans. He spent three seasons in Tennessee before being released at the end of last year’s training camp. He then had brief stints with the Texans and Rams, primarily on practice squads, but appeared in three games for Houston.
Over four seasons, Weaver has played in 36 games, including four starts. His best year came in 2022, when he recorded 5.5 sacks for Tennessee—his only career sacks. His snap count dropped from 58% in 2022 to 24% in 2023.
With Will McDonald and Jermaine Johnson—returning from an Achilles injury—set as the starting edge rushers, the Jets needed to strengthen their depth at the position this offseason.
Okorafor, also 27, was drafted in the third round by the Steelers in 2018. He started 59 games over six seasons in Pittsburgh before making one start for the Patriots last year.
He is expected to serve as a depth option at tackle, filling a need after the Jets lost starting right tackle Morgan Moses to the Patriots in free agency.
