Despite the imminent departure of their top two players, quarterback and cornerback/wide receiver, to the NFL Draft, the Colorado Buffaloes are bringing in strong new talent to fill the gap. The team secured a major victory by signing four-star quarterback Julian Lewis, who will take over for Sanders. On Monday, Colorado landed another significant recruit when four-star defensive lineman Jehiem Oatis, ranked No. 3 in the transfer portal by On3, announced his commitment after transferring from Alabama. Oatis becomes the sixth four-star player to join the Buffaloes’ 2025 recruiting class, which is currently ranked 35th nationally. He will be coached by one of the best defensive line staffs, including Damione Lewis and Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp. While Oatis’ signing is a big win for head coach Deion Sanders, his actions after committing may have been even more impactful. The 6-foot-5 defensive tackle took to social media to send a bold message to other top recruits, urging them to join him at Colorado. “All defensive players that wanna come win a National Championship hit my dm! We bringing the CFP to Boulder…” Oatis tweeted.
Additionally, Colorado could look to bolster its defense further with potential transfer portal targets like four-star cornerbacks Tacario Davis from Arizona and Josh Moten from Marshall, both of whom could replace Hunter. Other defensive players under consideration include edge-rushers Ben Bell (Texas State), Will Heldt (Purdue), and Marvin Jones Jr. (Florida State), as well as linebackers Amare Campbell (North Carolina) and Tyquan King (Temple).
