Although it’s still early in the recruitment process, Virginia Tech has positioned itself as a contender for one of the top offensive tackles in the 2026 class. Four-star OT Carter Scruggs announced his top 12 schools earlier today, with the Hokies making the list. They’ll face tough competition from national powerhouses like Clemson, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, Michigan, Alabama, Wisconsin, Miami, South Carolina, Penn State, and Georgia for the in-state standout.
Earlier this month, Hokies coaches, including new offensive line coach Matt Moore and offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, paid an in-home visit to Scruggs. Ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 131 player in the nation, the No. 9 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 4 player in Virginia, Scruggs would be a huge addition to Virginia Tech’s recruiting class.
On another note, Virginia Tech recently secured a commitment from four-star wide receiver Carnell Warren, giving the Hokies an excellent start to their 2026 recruiting efforts. Warren chose Virginia Tech over Duke, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech, becoming the first commitment for the class.
The 247Sports Composite ranks Warren as the No. 277 player nationally, the No. 44 wide receiver, and the No. 6 player in South Carolina. Warren’s commitment continues Virginia Tech’s strong recruiting momentum at the wide receiver position under Brent Pry and his staff.
247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins compares Warren to former Miami and current Alabama receiver Isaiah Horton, describing him as a “hulking wide receiver with exceptional athleticism who excels in contested-catch situations and thrives in traffic.” Ivins highlights Warren’s ability to make dynamic plays, particularly in 50-50 situations, and sees him as a potential difference-maker in college football.
